Various state governments and bus and coach operators have announced free and extra bus services for veterans, war widows and others involved in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) on ANZAC Day.

The Victorian government has offered free public transport travel for veterans and war widows on April 24-26, while ADF members, scouts and guides, school students and band members participating in parade activities can travel free on ANZAC Day if they’re in uniform.

A free shuttle bus service for all members of the public will run along 12 Melbourne routes to the 6AM dawn service at the Shrine of Remembrance, while a free park and ride bus service will transport between to the Mount Macedon dawn service.

“Extra public transport on Anzac Day will give more people a chance to take part in these important commemoration services and pay their respects,” Victorian public transport minister Gabrielle Williams says.

In NSW, public transport is free for veterans and serving ADF personnel on ANZAC Day if they wear their uniform or have medals.

South Australia has also announced additional public transport services for the day, with additional bus, train and tram services running to get to and from services and marches.

Current and former serving military personnel wearing uniforms or carrying service medals will also get free travel for all travel, including special shuttles for the ANZAC Day march.

Bus operator Busways has reiterated this message across its services in both NSW and South Australia for the day, with immediate family members of veterans also able to use Busways’ services for free on the day.
