Former Australia cricketers are targeting the players for allowing Virat Kohli to score an easy hundred in the second innings of the first Test in Perth. After amassing just five runs in the first essay, Kohli didn’t repeat the mistakes and went on to post his 30th Test ton. After scoring just 93 runs in six innings in the New Zealand series, Kohli finally managed to hit the form button in the series opener, with India setting up a big target of 534 runs for the Pat Cummins-led team.
Australia were never in the hunt and lost the match by 295 runs on Day 4. It was Virat’s seventh Test century Down Under, and the veteran needs three more centuries to lead the table of batters with the most three-digit scores in Australia.
There were reports of dressing room unrest after a big defeat, but Travis Head denied such developments, saying the boys went out together after the loss.
Allan Border has called out captain Pat Cummins for letting Virat score a hundred without any pressure from the team. Border feels that Virat could hurt Australia in the remaining four matches.
“I didn’t like the way Virat was allowed to complete a hundred. There was no resistance from our players. We don’t want this guy to get confidence for the rest of the Tests,” Border told SEN Radion.
India will have to beat Australia 4-0 to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship. The sub-continent team has won two consecutive Test series in Australia.
