An image showing Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh resting on a sofa with his feet up on the World Cup trophy is going viral on social media. The picture was not shared on social media platform X by any official account but it went viral in no time, with many offering their take on Marsh’s attitude.
One user posted a picture showing former India captain Kapil Dev lifting the World Cup 83 trophy on his head and wrote: “Difference between our culture and theirs…”
Another commented, “A perfect example of cultural difference,” while a third said, “Few Billion people were praying so hard to bring this home till few hours back!!”
However, not all were critical of Marsh. Some suggested it was perhaps an Australian thing to do.
“Doesn’t matter to Aussies, they don’t see things as we do… Move on.. there are better things to worry about,” one wrote.
“For you it’s a dream for them it’s a routine! Work on it so it becomes a routine,” another wrote.
Australia became the only team to win the World Cup trophy a whopping six times, after its victory against India in the final on Sunday. Australia, led by Pat Cummins, defeated India by six wickets in the World Cup final after India set up a modest target of 240 runs. The pitch at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium offered no help either with India’s pace bowlers struggling to get wickets as Australia’s Travis Head scored a century to lead his team to a defiant victory over a previously undefeated India team.
With his century, Head became the sixth batsman and the third Australian to score a century in a World Cup final.
India captain Rohit Sharma expressed his disappointment at the unexpected loss, saying, “There is disappointment in the dressing room but once the dust settles, we will reflect on this performance.”
“We were under no illusions and on the day, Australia played better than us,” he added.
