Billie Jean King Cup Finals 2024: Australia get challenging draw

The knockout format has been reintroduced to the tournament finals this year and will feature 12 nations. The semi-finalists were decided by round-robin ties in the previous editions.

Fourth-seeded Australia qualified for the Billie Jean King Cup 2024 finals after defeating Mexico 4-0 in a Qualifier tie in Brisbane in April. Daria Saville was instrumental in that victory and she won two rubbers.

In the other half of the draw, hosts Spain have been drawn against Poland, who the have world No.1 Iga Swiatek in their ranks. The winners of that tie will face Czechia in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, the winner of the opening-round clash between Japan and Romania will face Italy.

Australia reached the Billie Jean King Cup final in 2019 and 2022 where they lost to France and Switzerland, respectively.

Ajla Tomljanovic and Storm Hunter’s fitness issues are expected to make Australia’s finals campaign more complicated in what is already a difficult draw.

All the matches in the BJK Cup Finals will be held at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville, Spain. The quarter-final matches will be played from November 15 to 17. The semi-finals will take place on November 18 and 19 while the final will be played on November 20.
