Even without playing a game, Sydney midfielder Isaac Heeney has maintained his massive lead in the Carey-Bunton medal for the best NSW player in the AFL.

Heeney’s brilliant start to the year has been noticed by those astute coaches who have given the Cardiff product 41 votes out of a possible 50 after five rounds, with daylight second and then Swans teammate Errol Gulden on 20 votes.

Daylight makes another appearance behind Gulden, with North Broken Hill’s Taylor Walker picking up five votes in Adelaide’s breakthrough win over Carlton last week to land on the next rung of the leaderboard where he joins Finley farmer Tom Hawkins and East Sydney lad Nick Blakey on five.

Walker kicked four goals in the Crows’ win to take him to seven for the season, two behind Hawkins in the Bill Mohr medal for the leading NSW goalkicker.

Heeney has kciked eight goals for the season, sitting second on the leading NSW goalkicker ladder while Gulden’s five goals this season has him sitting equal fourth.
