- Rohit Sharma was in complete disagreement to Virat Kohli’s suggestion
- Kohli had suggested in 2019 to limite Tests to 5 centres
- Rohit advocated for the game to spread to all corners of the country
Ahead of the Indore Test, which will start on Wednesday (March 1) at the Holkar Stadium, Rohit justified his point of view by claiming that in order to promote the sport, Test cricket has to be taken to all corners of the country.
“If you want to promote Test cricket, it should be played in every part of the country and not restrict it to just a handful of big centres,” said Rohit in the pre-match press conference.
Talking about Kohli, he had suggested that Test cricket should be limited to five centres in order to build a proper season like other countries have where visiting teams are aware of the conditions they will be facing. Virat had also stated that every centre should get ODIs and T20Is on a rotation basis.
“We’ve been discussing this for a long time now, and in my opinion, we should have five Test centres, period,” Kohli had said in 2019.
“I mean, I agree (with) state associations and rotation and giving games and all that, that is fine for T20 and one-day cricket, but Test cricket, teams coming to India should know, ‘we’re going to play at these five centres, these are the pitches we’re going to expect, these are the kind of people that will come to watch, crowds’,” Kohli said.
In this series, the first two Test matches took place in Nagpur and Delhi. The fourth and final Test match will take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on March 9.
