Allen is averaging 7.9 points per game and 4.3 rebounds in her first season with the Mercury. She’s been crucial as a timely shot-maker and disruptor defensively, and will certainly have the opportunity to showcase her versatility in the Olympics.

“I think that playing in this league for a while, you also make a lot of friendships within the other team,” Allen said. “It’s always fun when you go to your national teams, and people play a different role there as well. It’s fun seeing people thrive within those environments.”

The Opals will also have Seattle’s Ezi Magbegor, Minnesota’s Alanna Smith, Washington’s Jade Melbourne, Los Angeles’ Steph Talbot, Indiana’s Kristy Wallace, and Seattle’s Sami Whitcomb.

Allen is excited to make the most of this experience, following a rough time with all of the circumstances surrounding the Tokyo Olympics.

“I just want to come to this one and enjoy it,” Allen said. “Tokyo was really hard to enjoy. There were just so many factors, COVID being the main one. So it wasn’t a real Olympics. For me to have my family in the stands, it’s going to be really big.”
