Shine Bright with Trends from Australian Fashion Week 24/25: Silver Eyes, Glowing Highlighters, and Metallic Nails

Silver Eye Makeup: A Touch of Futuristic Elegance

The standout eye makeup trend from AFW was undoubtedly the use of silver. Models graced the runway with a variety of glistening eye looks, ranging from subtle sheens to bold, metallic statements. This futuristic elegance adds a touch of sophistication and modernity to any ensemble.

“I focused on creating a metallic, dramatic look for the eyes,” says Skincare & Make-Up Director for Sisley Paris x Albus Lumen, Isabella Schimid. Who adds that it’s important to look at your eye shape to choose the best part of it to highlight for maximum effect.

“For example, if it’s the inner-corner or the outer-eye, I will accentuate the shadow in these areas, she explains. “This means it’s easy to take the look into the everyday, which is important to me. I wanted to have fun with a little bit of colour and give people the ability to be creative through these looks, but still make it wearable.”

How to Recreate the Look:

  1. Prep Your Eyes: Start with a good eye primer to ensure the silver shadow adheres well and lasts longer.
  2. Choose Your Shade: Opt for a high-pigment silver eyeshadow. Cream-based shadows or liquid metallics offer a more intense finish compared to powders.
  3. Application: For a subtle look, apply a light wash of silver over the eyelid, blending well. For a more dramatic effect, pack the colour onto the lid and extend slightly above the crease. Don’t forget to highlight the inner corners of the eyes to make them pop.
  4. Finishing Touches: Complete with lashings of mascara. For added drama, consider a metallic eyeliner along the lash line

Face Highlighter: Achieving the Perfect Glow

Radiant skin was another major theme, with face highlighters taking centre stage. The models showcased glowing complexions that appeared almost ethereal, thanks to strategic highlighting.

As with acing any base, great skin prep does always come first. At the Viktoria & Woods show, Beauty Director Isabella Schimid used Elizabeth Arden products on every model for healthy skin radiance. “I purposely combined the Hyaluronic Acid Ceramide Capsules with Hydra-Plumping Serum and the Retinol + HPR Ceramide Rapid Skin-Renewing Water Cream to get that plump finish” says Schimid of the show look.

How to Recreate the Look:

  1. Prep Your Skin: Start with a hydrating serum and moisturiser (as Isabella recommends above) followed by a primer that suits your skin type.
  2. Foundation: Apply a light to medium coverage foundation to create a flawless base.
  3. Highlighting: Choose a highlighter that complements your skin tone. Pearly shades work well for fair skin, champagne tones for medium skin, and gold hues for darker complexions.
  4. Application: Apply the highlighter to the high points of your face—cheekbones, bridge of the nose, brow bones, and the cupid’s bow. Use a fan brush for a more diffused glow or a damp beauty sponge for a more intense shine.
  5. Blending: Blend well to avoid harsh lines, ensuring a seamless, natural-looking glow.

Metallic Nails: Bold and Chic

Nail art embraced metallic finishes, with silver and chrome shades being particularly prominent with a pop of glitter for some. These bold, shiny talons add a chic touch to any look, making them a perfect accessory and easy adaption of this runway look.

If you don’t have the nails of a hand model, don’t worry since you can absolutely fake the look with stick-ons. Yes, they’re back in a big way, and the models at the Emma On Holiday show are a testament to just how stylish plastic press-on nails can actually look. Opt for a shorter length for wearability day-to-day, or go all out with long extensions for a fun and bold take on this when the occasion allows.
