While opening night of the 2024-25 NBA season is still a ways away, fans can get their first glimpse at new-look teams by firing up the newest edition of the NBA 2K video game series.
After first launching in 1999, NBA 2K25 is the 26th edition of the famed basketball video game. Featuring a revamped approach to a familiar title, fans may be wondering when they can play the newest edition of the annual game.
Here’s everything to know about NBA 2K25, including the game’s release date, early access availability, pricing, and the athletes who will grace the various covers of this year’s game.

NBA 2K25 releases worldwide Friday, Sept. 6, 2024. “Early Tip-Off” access to play the game begins Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 8 a.m. ET (5 a.m. PT).
Fans who purchased the game ahead of its Sept. 6 release will receive early access. Early access is available on all platforms except for Nintendo Switch.

2K Sports revealed that there will be a “Hall of Fame Edition,” “All-Star Edition,” “WNBA Edition” and “Standard Edition” of NBA 2K25.

NBA 2K25 will feature three different cover athletes across the game’s four editions.
Celtics star Jayson Tatum will be on the cover of the “Standard Edition,” as well as the “All-Star Edition” alongside Aces star A’ja Wilson. Both Tatum and Wilson receive the honor within a year of leading their teams to NBA and WNBA titles, respectively.
The NBA 2K25 “Hall of Fame Edition” features Vince Carter, who is set to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2024. The game’s cover features a photo of the Raptors great’s iconic between-the-legs dunk in the 2000 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
